This is yet another great episode of Reaper. The writers have really stepped it up, this half of the season.
Sam finds a suit jacket in his locker at work. When he puts it on, he finds himself in a restaurant, where The Devil is dining with a man named Mike Volta. The Devil dares Mike to go after a woman who has just accepted her boyfriend’s proposal. After Mike follows her to the ladies’ room, The Devil tells Sam that there’s a vessel under his chair. He says the guy is so slick, and very proud. He thought he could sweet talk The Devil. Sam finds Mike and the woman in a closet. He uses the vessel –a Polaroid- easily capturing Mike.
At the DMV, Gladys expresses her approval of Andi.
An INS agent is investigating Sarah and Ben. She tells him they need to make it look good for him.
The Devil asks Sam if he had anything to do with the fact that Mike is free again. Sam said he took the vessel to the DMV already. The Devil suspects that there is a mole in Hell, helping Mike escape. Sam opens a mailbox to find the Polaroid camera. As he takes it out, he finds himself in front of the home of the Carvers, where the husband is coming home, and Mike –in his boxers- is escaping from a second story window. He tells Sam this is a waste of everyone’s time, because he’ll just get out again. He tells Sam they should at least make a memory. The two put their arms around each other’s shoulders, and Sam takes the photo, and captures Mike.
After Sam leaves, Gladys removes the vessel from below the desk, and puts it in her bag.
Tony shows up at the Work Bench. He has heard that The Devil is on the warpath about the soul that keeps escaping. Andi asks Tony to take a look at the contract to help Sam get out of it. He agrees.
Ben and Sarah are showing Sock the photo album that they assembled from Photoshopped images. Sock tells them that it’s lame, and that they need naked photos. Sarah has one on her camera. Sock tells Ben they need to get his shirt off and lube him up.
Mike meets Sam in the apartment building elevator, offering to take him out clubbing. The Devil and a demon –Winston- are waiting in Sam’s apartment. He says that he has tortured demons, and managed to seal Hell up tight. Sam, though, tells him that Mike was just in the elevator. Sam doesn’t think Mike is that bad. The Devil, though, takes Sam to the Carver house, where Sam caught Mike earlier. He tells Sam that the Carvers were married for 24 years, and never considered being unfaithful to each other, until Mike Volta showed up. They find the Carvers lying dead in the bedroom.
The INS agent wonders about all the nudity, “Seems… jarring.” They fabricate the story of how they met. He says it’s obvious that they’re lying, and that, by Monday night, Sarah will be on a plane, and Ben will be in jail.
Andi and Sock are in the car, talking about dressing up for the club, where Mike is going. Sam comes out of his parents’ house. His parents hug him, and hand him the contract.
They meet Ben at the club. Ben is wasted, and planning on partying away his last weekend. They see Mike running away from a man. He jumps into Gladys’ car. Amazed at Gladys’ involvement, they follow them to her house. They’re inside, looking very flirtatious. Sam, Andi, and Sock rush in. Gladys stands in front of Mike. Sam can’t get a clean shot with the vessel. Desperate, Mike grabs a knife and threatens to kill Gladys, if they don’t let him walk out. Sock calls his bluff, but Mike shoves the knife into Gladys, and rushes out. Gladys appears dead.
They put Gladys’ body into the car. Sock feels guilty, and wants to bury her “in someplace beautiful.” They take her to Tony’s cabin, but he doesn’t answer. As they head into the woods to bury Gladys, Tony flies in. They tell him they brought the contract, and, uh, a dead body. As Sock starts into his strangely tender eulogy, Tony stops them. He takes the shard out of Gladys’ shoulder, and she revives. They take her to Booze, where she downs a couple pitchers of beer. She tells them that she helps Mike because she got tired of being lonely.
The next day, The Devil shows up at the DMV. He knows.
Josie comes to the Work Bench to help Ben and Sarah. She says that he can avoid the jail time, if he pays the fine –$4,000. She says, though, that there’s no chance for Sarah. She says the officer is willing to take a bribe. She talks him into pooling their money to make the deal. She says she needs his $2,000 by five o’clock.
Gladys shows up and tells Sam and Andi that Mike will be at a wedding. She says she’s been reassigned to the “home office”. As she walks away, a “worm” comes from the ground and swallows her.
At the wedding, the boys sneak in. Sam finds Mike under the bride’s dress. He runs. Sam tracks him to a storage area. Mike still tries to get Sam to work with him. Sam runs out of flashes. In the dark, the camera –the vessel- won’t work. Mike jumps Sam, but as he’s about to kill, Sock and Ben open the door. The sunlight lets Sam capture Mike.
Sarah calls Ben’s phone. She has gone on the run, and, of course, has Ben’s money. She’s unsympathetic to his fate.
Tony’s demon “lawyer” friend, Kenneth, tells Tony that someone has removed every page that refers to the identity of Sam’s father. They question who it must be.
Cassidy is going to take Ben to his hearing. “When this is over, my boyfriend won’t be married anymore.”
The Devil comes to thank Sam, “I don’t know how I can show my gratitude, this time.” Sam tells The Devil that he can thank him by letting Gladys go. The Devil tells him that the best have debated him, and there isn’t anything he can say that can change his mind. “Please.” The Devil’s face softens. He seems weakened by Sam’s honest, innocent plea. He snaps, and Gladys appears.
Nearby, Tony, Kenneth, and two other demons are watching Sam and The Devil interact. They’re amazed that Sam was able to get him to let Gladys back. Tony says he’s convinced that Sam’s father is The Devil.
