Reaper Season 1
From the mind of Kevin “Silent Bob” Smith comes “Reaper”, produced by ABC Studios and airing Tuesdays at 9:00/8:00c on the CW, beginning Tuesday, September 25, 2007.
Sam (Bret Harrison from “The Loop” and “Grounded for Life”) enjoyed the perfect slacker life. His mom (Allison Hossack, “Falcon Beach” and “Kingdom Hospital”) and dad (Andrew Airlie, “Fantastic Four”, “The Butterfly Effect 2″, “The 4400″) were always extremely lenient, letting him slide through childhood, never insisting, nor encouraging Sam to put a lot of effort into anything. Ironically, his mom and dad constantly pressured Keith, his little brother (Kyle Switzer, “15/Love”, “Just Jamie”, “Piece of Mind”), to excel. After high school, Sam spends his hours playing video games, hanging out with his friends Bert “Sock” Wysocki and Ben, and working at the local Work Bench home improvement center.
On his 21st birthday, however, Sam discovers the truth behind his parents’ leniency. Before he was born, they sold his soul to the devil. On this birthday, Satan (Ray Wise, “24″, “The Closer”, “Twin Peaks”) calls on Sam with the news: Sam must work for his, hunting down and returning lost souls to Hell. Sam re-thinks his original rejection of the new job, when the devil demonstrates that breaking the contract has dire consequences.
Sam, with the help of his friends, of course, finds his own way of dealing with the dangerous and horrific new “job”. The strange vessels which he is given to contain his bounties, including a Dirt Devil in episode 1, combined with his gang’s slacker style and inventiveness make for some funny and interesting twists. Sam even develops a sense of pride and self-worth as a result of his hellish mission.
